Evesham Wheelers' First Elite Category Road Race
Evesham Vale Road Race - March 21st 2010

HQ: Inkberrow village hall

Distance: 90km

Start: 9:30 am

Evesham Wheelers' first elite category road race has so far attracted some good riders including Dan Fleeman who rode for Cervelo's test team last season. He is heading the new Team Raleigh who have moved back into professional cycling and hoping to emulate the 1980s when they were one of the top teams. Also we have the old Sports Bean team whose main sponsors are Bigmaggys.com, Wilier and Prendas. Last year the team won the Girvin stage race in Scotland and the Totnes Vire two day stage race, which means they will be a big team to watch. Flavio Zappi, Green Jersey winner in the Giro D'italia, who now lives in Oxford and owns a cafe where he proudly hangs the jersey on the wall, has put a new team together with a mix of experienced and young riders.

Riders Ben and Tom Stockdale and also Matthew Ullmer, all ex Evesham Wheelers, are riding for an under 23 team called Team Qoroz with bikes designed in Neville Chaning's home town of Stroud. Ben had his first elite win last season in the Martyrs road race, so the team of 6 is hoping to show of there potential this season, starting with their home race. Another local team, Cheltenham's VC Montpelier, who won the Gloucestershire team of the year last year, will want to get off to a good start. All of these teams will make it the best Evesham Road race to date. However, this hasn't put off riders who have supported the race for the last few years which should give us an exciting race.

PLEASE NOTE

Marshals required for the 21st March to help with the duties on the road race. Could you please contact Paul Stockdale or Norman Smith (0771 993 2536) if you are available to help.
